Oxfam Trailtrekker 2010 – 5th & 6th June 2010
In late 2009 in a moment of some light-hearted banter in the office it was suggested that the company should embark on a challenge that would benefit a worthy cause and provide an opportunity for some team bonding.
Nobody would admit to being the individual that first muttered the words Oxfam Trailtrekker; but in the early hours of Sunday morning after 70km of non-stop walking across the Yorkshire Dales in temperatures of 25ºC the day before – the group agreed to relegate Phil to a distance of 30m with strict instructions not to come up with any more bright ideas!!
Fortunately we were able to crawl, stumble and drag our weary bodies around the remaining 30km to complete the marathon trek in a time of 29 hours. The team raised over £3,800 and were one of only 58 teams with a full complement of 4 to finish out of 150 teams.
A special mention must go to our superb support crew who were there throughout the 29 hours keeping us fed, watered and entertained at the 4 check points. It is no exaggeration to say we would not have finished it without them. Phil, Steve, Nick and Paul would also like to thank everyone who very kindly sponsored the team.
A more sedate challenge is being considered for next year, at the moment the favoured proposal is a 1000 piece jigsaw!
